Topic:

There are two types of laws: just and unjust. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist unjust laws.

Nobe Seihiro’s opinion:

So far, many people still discuss the issue of whether we should obey so-called “unjust law” or not. Many people think that disobey and resist unjust laws is a nature of humanity. However, I think that we should obey laws which even considered unjust. Because it is not a rational behavior to disobey and resist laws, which will bring chaos to our social order and hurt the innocent people. In fact, we should to revise so-called unjust law rather than disobey and resist them.
Admittedly, whether the laws are just or unjust is probably based on the subjective point of view from different angle by people. Namely, if the laws are beneficial to oneself which will be considered just. On the contrary, if the laws are harmful to oneself which will be considered unjust. For example, by many country’s laws, bicycles are not allowed on the fast traffic lane because that will influence the regular traffic. One day, if a bicycle rider were hit and injured by a car on fast traffic lane. However, the court sentences the bicycle rider is wrong, even must compensate money to car driver. At this time, the bicycle rider will think that the laws are unjust to him because he was injured but have to compensate to the car driver. However, the car driver will think the laws are just.
In autocratic or communism countries, people have to drastically disobey and resist unjust laws to guarantee their own rights. In such countries, people only can obey the so-called laws made by administrator which are tools to protect political power rather than the right of the people. Criticizing the laws would be the criticism to autocratic or communism administration, which is unallowable. Of course, that disobeying and resisting to the shortage of the current laws is also one the significant progress of our social in human history.
However, we now already in a democracy society whose laws were made to protect people’s rights basically. Everyone has to obey the laws first because disobey and resist the laws will hurt the other of most people’s rights and be an illegal behavior. If we think that some laws is unjust to us and don’t want to obey it, we should try to change it by legal method under the prerequisite of not hurt other’s rights, such as drawing our objection, voting to the laws and so no. rather than through some behaviors that hurt others rights such as disobey the laws to deny the law system of our society even cause the chaos of the order of our society.
In addition, by an old saying “the unjust laws are also laws”, the process of revising laws should be carried on under the law system by the principles of the few obey the most. The people who disobey the laws thought that he can change the laws, however, the people tend to change the laws by disobeying them are not only did not change the laws but also hurt the other people’s rights, which in fact is a kind of naïve behavior such as someone who doesn’t satisfy to the speed limit races on high way, which not only influence the normal transportation illegally but also didn’t change anything.
In sum, if we think the laws is unjust to us, we can revise them by normal process such as persuading the legislators to revise them or voting the laws, rather then using illegal and irrational method to disobey and resist them. Despite of the unjust laws may cause bad influence to people’s life. However, in my opinion, whether the laws are just or unjust to us, we should obey them first, then try to revise the so-called unjust law.
